Lease or exclusive? What you’re actually buying

There are two ways to get a beat, and they’re very different deals.

A lease (a licence)

You can use the beat on your song under set terms: how many streams, which files, where it can go. It’s affordable because other artists can license the same beat too. Almost every song made on a producer’s beat starts here.

An exclusive

The beat is yours alone from then on: it comes off sale, so nobody new can license it. Anyone who licensed it before keeps their licence; that’s standard everywhere.

When does exclusive make sense?

When a song on the beat is taking off, or you’re building a whole project around one beat and don’t want anyone else on it. For most songs, a lease is the smart move. Put the money you save into promotion.

On epikbeats.net, exclusive offers start at $500. Anyone with an account can make one, and every offer gets a personal reply.
